Ana Mercedes Hoyos: New Paintings

November 18, 1993 - December 18, 1993

Yoshii Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition of new paintings and drawings by Ana Mercedes Hoyos.

With these works, Hoyos continues her renowned investigation into the possibilities of updating and reinventing the still life. For Hoyos, the still life is a fast track to the essence of things, and she infuses her compositions, both monumental and intimate, with a vitality that is physically palpable.

At Yoshii, Hoyos will exhibit a suite of still lifes featuring changing perspectives of the same arrangement. These paintings display a heightened minimalist rigor which tautly balances the bold geometry of her compositions against the lushness of her color. The results are paintings with the immediate punch of a snapshot and the enveloping atmosphere of a dream.

Ana Mercedes Hoyos has exhibited worldwide, most recently at Galeria Ramis F. Barquet in Monterrey, Mexico and a retrospective of her works on paper was held this fall at the Colombian Consulate in New York.
